DC101 - Foundations
Intro to Low Voltage DC Systems - No experience necessary.
Service Description
Intro to Low Voltage DC Systems No experience necessary — perfect for beginners. This foundational course is designed to introduce students to the essential principles of low voltage DC electrical systems in a clear, approachable way. Whether you're a complete beginner, a DIY builder, or someone preparing for more advanced training, this class gives you the core knowledge and hands-on experience needed to work safely and confidently with 12V–48V systems commonly found in vehicles, trailers, solar setups, and off-grid installations. What you'll learn: DC Electrical Theory Made Simple: Learn how voltage, current, and resistance work together using real-world analogies and examples. Core Components: Understand how batteries, fuses, switches, relays, and loads all interact—and why each one matters. Wiring & Safety Techniques: Master safe wiring practices, crimping, stripping, and termination techniques that reduce failure risk and fire hazards. System Planning & Sizing: Learn how to calculate electrical loads, select the proper wire gauge, and account for voltage drop across long runs. Basic Diagnostics & Tool Use: Get familiar with multimeters, test lights, and diagnostic workflows to identify and solve common issues. This course emphasizes practical skills and real-world examples, making it the ideal first step for anyone new to DC systems. It’s a required prerequisite for advanced classes such as mobile solar integration, DC-DC charging, and 120V inverter systems. By the end, you’ll walk away with a solid understanding of how low voltage systems function—and the confidence to wire, protect, and troubleshoot them safely.
