DC202 - Lighting, Integration, & Acc.
Learn how to tie in solar systems, shore power, protect from accidental battery drain, and more!
Service Description
Lighting, Integration & Accessories: Advanced DC Systems Prerequisite: Intro to Low Voltage DC Systems This course is built for intermediate and advanced builders looking to go beyond battery powered independent aftermarket add-ons. Focused on the electrical systems that integrate with OEM power signals, lighting, audio, RF comms, high current, duty cycle, and logic control, this class teaches you advanced techniques. Whether you're building a fully equipped overland rig, upgrading a service vehicle, or wiring custom accessories into a daily driver, this class is packed with real-world techniques and industry best practices. What you'll learn: Lighting Systems for Off-Road & Utility Use Design effective lighting layouts and harness's when installing multiple accessories, including driving lights, scene lights, rock lights, ambient lighting, decorative glow, and more while avoiding dark spots, glare, overload, and ground loop issues. Custom Harness Design & Connector Systems Build professional-grade long lasting wiring harnesses using sealed connectors (Deutsch, Molex, Weather-Pack), braided sleeving, and junctions for modular installs and easy service. OEM Signal Integration (3.5V & 5V) Tap into factory controls without triggering fault codes. Learn how to work with low-voltage trigger signals, relay interfacing, and digital I/O logic safely. Duty Cycle, Air Systems, & Other High Draw Accessories Design timed, temperature, and pressure controlled circuits for air compressors, amplifiers, pumps, and recovery gear. Focus on advanced logic relay control, staged activation, and current surge protection. Clean Power for Audio, RF, & Communications Equipment Deliver stable, noise-isolated power for HAM radios, GMRS, intercoms, and amps. Cover ground loop avoidance, power conditioning, and RF shielding basics. This class is project- and integration-focused, with an emphasis on quality, serviceability, and electrical reliability under harsh conditions. It pairs well with Mobile Power Systems & Solar Integration, but each class explores distinct areas of advanced DC design.
